developmental edit

I’m not sure I should even call this an ‘edit’, because it’s actually all about planning. This is where I can work with you on your plotting and the detailed breakdown of your book to try to dead off problems before they even make it to the text.
You’ve got your essential plot, you’ve got your subplots, you’ve got your characters and you’ve started the architecture of your worldbuilding, but you want to make sure that you’re not about to write 100,000 words based on a flawed premise or inconsistent internal logic. This is where the developmental edit comes in.
Consulting with an editor at this stage can help you to fine tune the essential story idea, avoid clichés, plot holes, character inconsistencies, unsupportable world-building elements and other potential issues with your story.

what can i expect from a developmental edit
A written report outlining any broad structural problems with the story breakdown – plot holes, character inconsistencies, inadvisable naming conventions, potential sensitivity reads needed, faulty internal logic, and any other details likely to cause you to stumble in the writing process. A marked-up manuscript is not provided.
Please note that a read-through of the finished work is not included in my estimate. If you would like me to read and feed back on your subsequent draft, please note this in the ‘Other Comments’ field in my Contact form or request a structural edit after you have completed your manuscript.
